Written by Tyler Goelz on May 02, 17

tl;dr Join Keep Saint Petersburg Local and Organic Beard Supply at 5:30 PM on 3/3/17 in front of the Hotel Detroit Condos to march with our St. Pete Mayor to support an ordinance being introduced to protect the character of St. Pete's Central Avenue.

Mayor's March for "Independents"

On Wednesday, We March! We March for Our Local Businesses & to Protect Our Local Character!

You read that right... Keep Saint Petersburg Local announced over the weekend that on Wednesday, March 3rd, 2017, "St. Petersburg's Mayor Rick Kriseman, city leaders, small business owners, entrepreneurs, and lovers of St. Pete" will join forces to march for small and independently-owned businesses (Hey - that's us!)

Mayor Kriseman will announce the creation of the 'Independent Corridor Plan', an ordinance designed to protect the character of St. Pete’s Central Avenue (from our waterfront to 31st Street) and Beach Drive, while promoting opportunity for entrepreneurs.

That's HUGE news! I don't know about you, but we've noticed quite a bit of bay-blocking-buildings breaking ground, along with some large names coming to the area.

Who would blame them? The Burg is pretty awesome and outside sources are starting to see the potential. The challenge is preventing our "small big town" from outgrowing it's roots - from the folks that helped put this city on the map in the first place.

Following the announcement, the mayor will lead a march down Central Avenue to a celebration at Punky’s Bar & Grill located at 3063 Central Avenue. (Transportation will be available to shuttle marchers back to Central Avenue and 2nd Street)

Not only will the mayor be announcing the creation of the 'Independent Corridor Plan', he will be leading a march down Central Avenue to raise awareness and support for the plan.

This is our chance, people. KSPL has been a huge help in spreading the awareness of this plan and needs our help to continue it's support. If you'd rather see local, independent restaurants, bars, galleries, and shops along Central Avenue (and the surrounding avenues) then come join us in the March For 'Independents'.
